WHAT NOW?

LILLY

The next few days were almost eerily calm. But maybe it just seemed that way, because the worry something could go wrong nagged her constantly.

But nothing happened. Despite her fears, Faith didn’t pester her with questions, Christopher had completely disappeared, and everything was going well at work too.

The relationship between Slade and her was cautious, both from his side and from hers.

The day after their talk, Lilly had called her therapist. But for some reason, she hadn’t told her the whole truth. In those one and a half hours, they’d talked at length about Slade, and Dr. Linken had highlighted all the differences between Slade and Christopher.

Lilly had been aware of most of them already, but hearing it all from an outsider was somehow better. Again and again, they’d gone over the signs of addiction, and Lilly had to evaluate each point herself. Much harder than it sounded.

However, she kept her run-in with Christopher from Dr. Linken. Why, she didn’t quite know. She actually needed the most help with that. Even though Christopher hadn’t shown up over the past few days, Lilly didn’t get her hopes up that he wouldn’t act on his threats.

“What’re you thinking about?” Slade’s mellow voice pulled her out of her deep thoughts.

She lifted her head and met his gaze in the mirror. Arms folded in front of his chest, he stood in the doorway of the bathroom.

“The past few days.”

He looked like he was worried about her. His brow was furrowed, and his lips lacked their usual smile. Instead, they were pulled into a thin line, and his piercing twitched slightly as his tongue played with it inside his mouth, as he always did when he wasn’t happy about something.

Still, he looked delicious. His powerful, tattooed arms were crossed in front of his broad chest. The black tank top stretched over his muscles and the light blue jeans sat low on his hips.

She hadn’t quite finished studying him when he cursed softly and quickly stepped behind her.

Resting his hands on the sink to the left and right of her, he pushed against her back. His dark eyes held her still in the mirror as he pressed his lips to her neck. The stubble that had appeared on his face during the day scraped lightly over her sensitive skin. It felt so good, she couldn’t hold back a sigh.

“You constantly distract me, kitten,” he murmured.

She tilted her head to the side. “Distract?” She put down the brush she’d been running through her wet hair for ages.

“I wanted to know what’s going on inside your pretty little head, and you were practically undressing me with your eyes.” His hands slid to her hips, feeling hot and heavy, just like his body would feel on top of hers.

Slowly, she leaned back against him, closing her eyes and enjoying his warmth and his strength. “I’d rather undress you with my hands than my eyes,” she said, shivering pleasantly as the grip of his fingers tightened.

But unlike what she expected, he didn’t pull her to him or kiss her neck.
